| INSTRUCTIONS TO CONTRIBUTORS |

1. |
The Gastroenterological Journal of Taiwan, being a publication of The Gastroenterological Society of
Taiwan and The Digestive Endoscopy Society of Taiwan, opens the forum for original articles, case
reports, or any form of review related to gastroenterological sciences. The manuscripts should have not
been or will not be published elsewhere. The authors of the accepted manuscript must agree to
automatically transfer the copyright to the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan, The excerpts from
international journals by members of the Society are also included. |

The manuscript should be enclosed with a note stating the authors' preferred form such as original article,
case report or any form, but the final determination is subject to the editors. Also enclose the copy of this
instruction sheet by having literally checked it and marked "V" to the left side of each item if observed. |

The manuscript written in English, and should be ended with Chinese briefing not more than char 1,200 characters.
The briefing should contain introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusion. |

4. |
The original article should begin with a title page followed by the pages carrying abstract, introduction,
materials and methods, results, discussion, references and briefing in sequence. The case report also
begins with a title page, followed by abstract, introduction, case presentation, discussion, references
and briefing in sequence from page two. Tables, figures and legends are compiled in the finals.
The manuscript is required in triplicate. |

The title page should contain the title, name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s) running title and key words.
If the same institution involves several units, it should be written as follows:
Department of Internal Medicine, Surgery1, Radiolog2 and Pathology3, College of Medicine,
National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan
If affiliation of any author has changed, mark“#”and indicate his (her) present affiliation and date.
Key words, not more than 4 phrases. All should be both in Chinese and in English.
The name for correspondence, his (her) address, affiliation and phone number should list underlying the title. |

The abstract is limited to 300 characters to outline purpose, All findings and conclusions. |

7. |
The manuscript should be typed double spaced on the 27cm 21cm paper with a margin of 2.5 cm on all sides.
The page number should be noted in the right-upper corner. |

8. |
Numerals should be Arabic, and all measures should be presented in metric units, for example, cm, mm,
μ, mμ, nm, L, dL, mL, kg, g, μg, Cal, ℃, etc. The first letter of cited table or figure should be capitalized. |

Symbols and abbreviations in common use are preferred, such as % for percentage, α for alpha. |

Use these symbols *,†,‡,§,∥,¶ ,**,† †…… in sequence for footnotes in tables. |

Illustrations or photos should be in triplicate (not in copy). In addition to sequence, title and name of
the first author, the top of the photos should be clearly marked with soft pencil on its back.
Legends should be written in set sequence or typed double spaced on another page. |

Illustrations should be drawn with black ink on white paper and photoed as smooth and black-and-white
at no sacrifice of their clarity. The size of the photo, including its footnote, should not exceed 14cm 22cm.
The metric rule should also be photoed if it is an instrumental specimen. The optical or electrical
photomicrograph should give its magnification and stain. The estimated occupation of each illustration
should be indicated in the manuscript. |

The authors should assume the responsibility of proofreading, which should not be more than twice,
and return the manuscript not later than 48 hours after each proofreading. No contents should be altered. |

The editors may have the right to amend the manuscript with the consent of the authors and to refuse
one that does not meet the requirements of the Journal. |

15. |
Original article will be published free of charge up to six pages, case report five pages (including one page of
black-and-white illustrtation). Costs for extra pages, color photo and photoengraving will be charged to
the authors. The authors are given 30 reprints free. When the article is accepted, the copy editing fee should
be paid by the author. |

16. |
References in the text should be numbered in order of appearance to the right of the citation,
for example, [1-3]. The name(s) of the author(s) not more than two will be factually listed, and only
the name of the first author will be listed and followed by et al. if there are more than three. References
as a whole will list the names of the first three authors followed by et al. if the references are from journals,
list in sequence name(s)of author(s), title, name of journal, year, volume number and pages. Names of
journals are abbreviated according to Index Medics. If from books, list name(s) of author(s) and editor (s),
title of book, edition ,volume number, place, publisher, year and pages. References in languages other
than English should give English translation if available (see Ex. A). Otherwise the original language
should be maintained (Ex. B), and when cited in the text, names are Romanized and titles translated
into English with the original language noted in parenthesis (Ex. C) . |
